Your watch reads the heart rate; a buzz on the wrist holds the intensity — you know you have drifted out of the zone without looking at a screen. Put the phone on the floor and it is a full dashboard you can read from two metres away.
The fancier the feature list, the less of it you actually touch once you are in the gym or the box. KINETIC does three training modes.
No type, no duration. Press start and the timer runs from zero until you end it — heart rate, time in each zone and calories recorded end to end. Open the record any time afterwards and write down what you did: barbell loads, the score for today’s WOD, or just a photo.
A timed aerobic session with a target zone. One buzz when you enter the zone, two when you drop out — no need to watch the screen, so you can spend the whole session where you meant to be. Aerobic base, built properly.
Structured intervals: Norwegian 4×4, or the Assault 60s Death Set for days you do not want to run — any fan bike works, Assault or Echo. The watch buzzes at every segment change and counts each one down, switching between sprint and active recovery — the most efficient way to raise your VO2 max.
Gyms and boxes are loud and badly lit, and your hands are busy under a barbell — so KINETIC's primary cue is a buzz on the wrist. The screen is there for a glance out of the corner of your eye.
Entered the target zone · pace is right, hold it
Dropped out of the zone · ease off or push, bring the heart rate back
Interval segment change · sprint, recovery, cool-down — you know the moment it switches
When you do want the number · lay the phone on the floor and it is a dashboard: oversized BPM digits, readable from two metres away
Every session ends with a full record generated for you: heart-rate curve, time in zones, total duration, calories, average and max heart rate. WOD detail and photos from an open session can go in any time afterwards; you can also export a share card so what you did reads at a glance.
Hit a new max heart rate? The app asks whether to update it — and recalculates your zones for you.
You do not have to memorise a formula — KINETIC supports lactate threshold (LTHR), heart-rate reserve (HRR) and max heart rate (MHR), and Auto works down from the most accurate your data allows: LTHR if you have measured it, HRR if it has your resting heart rate, MHR if it has neither. Resting heart rate and heart-rate recovery come in from Apple Health every time you open the app.
A Live Activity starts automatically during a session — pocket the phone or lock the screen and BPM, zone and the countdown carry on showing on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
Complication layouts for Apple Watch, so KINETIC is one tap from the watch face — pick a mode and start.
Every session is written to Apple Health, and resting heart rate and heart-rate recovery come back the other way to build zones that fit you.
Same three protocols, same haptics, on 64 models across Forerunner, fēnix, epix, Venu and vívoactive; the iPhone companion KINETIC Link fills in setup, the dashboard and your history.
KINETIC is out now on the App Store, free to download. Follow along on Instagram and Threads for what gets tested and what changes.
